Emily Dickinson was a prolific poet, yet she lived a life of solitude. As a girl, she spent seven years at the Amherst Academy. She later spent a short time at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning to her family's house in Amherst. Dickinson's isolation kep people thinking of her as a recluse, and the fact that she tended to dress all in white was off-putting for many in her era. Emily had friends -- but they she reached out to them through writing letters. Although she lived a quiet life, it was a full life in terms of work and poetry. After her death, her sister unearthed an enormous body of work that would later be shared and loved by the world.
